Meetings of Sudanese - Russian Economic and Trade Cooperation Committee to begin in Khartoum on Tuesday
The fifth session of the joint Sudanese - Russian economic and trade cooperation committee will begin Tuesday in Khartoum, in presence of the Minister of Minerals, Prof. Hashim Ali Salem, and his Russian counterpart, Sergey Donskoy, who is accompanied by a high-level delegation that includes representatives of the Russian Ministries of Trade, Higher Education, Oil and Mining as well as the private sector.
In a press statement, Sudan Ambassador to Russia, Nadir Yousif, said that the fifth session of the joint committee will discuss a number of new issues and will follow up implementation of the previous sessions.
He pointed to the great progress achieved in the economic relations between Sudan and Russia, especially in the field of mining and the trade balance.
He also referred to arrival of Sudanese exports to the Russian market for the first time and increase of the Russian wheat imports in Sudan.
Ambassador Yousif said that a high-level delegation of the Russian Russ Atom Company would arrive in Sudan in implementation of the agreement on the use of nuclear power in peaceful purposes, adding that another delegation of the Russian Cosmos Company would also arrive in Sudan to discuss the cooperation in the fields of space, satellites and remote sensing.
He referred to an agreement for increasing Sudan vegetables and fruits' exports to the Russian market, which are also bracing to receive the Sudanese exports of potato, banana, mango and grape fruit.
Ambassador Yousif pointed out that most of the Russian investments in Sudan are in the field of mining, referring to the operation of five Russian mining companies in the country.
He pointed to endeavors to introduce other Russian companies to operate in Sudan at the fields of petroleum and gas, adding that delegations of these companies would arrive in Sudan early next year.
