President Al Bashir Affirms Firmness of Sudanese Egyptian Relations

Khartoum, Dec. 27 (SUNA) – President of the Republic, Field Marshal Omer Al-Bashir, has affirmed firmness of the relations between Sudan and the Arab Republic of Egypt, describing the bilateral relations as historic and progressing in all domains. This came when he received Thursday at the Guest House the Egyptian Foreign Minister, Samih Shukri, the Foreign Minister, Dr. Al-Dirdiri Mohamed Ahmed, and the Director of the Security and Intelligence Service, Gen. Salah Abdalla. President Al-Bashir was informed on outcome of the meetings of the joint Sudanese - Egyptian quartet. In a press statement after the meeting, the Foreign Minister said that the Sudanese and Egyptian sides at the meeting have shared identical views on the issues which were discussed. He said that the two sides have underscored the importance of continuing the cooperation and coordination between Sudan and Egypt on the regional issues. Dr. Al-Dirdiri indicated that the two sides affirmed the importance of implementing what was agreed upon at the meetings of the joint higher committee. He referred to joint major projects being implemented, especially with regard to the electricity power connection between the two countries. He stated that the Sudanese and Egyptian sides have discussed the coordination between them at the levels of the Nile water agreement and other issues of mutual concern. The Foreign Minister said that the joint quartet has discussed the Sudanese role in the regional issues, especially with regard to Sudan’s initiatives for achieving peace in South Sudan and the Central African Republic and the recent visit of the President of the Republic to Syria, adding that the two sides have affirmed the importance of coordination between them on the regional initiative for the Red Sea. Meanwhile, the Egyptian Foreign Minister, Samih Shukri, has affirmed the keenness to implement directives of higher political leadership of the two countries for boosting the relations. He said that work is continuing to reactivate implementation of the agreements achieved through the continuous dialogue between the two sides. He said that the two sides have discussed all the issues and challenges relating to the interests and keeping security at the region. Shukri pointed out that stability in Sudan is essential for the stability in Egypt, adding that harmony and cooperation between the two peoples and leaderships of the two countries is important for confronting the common challenges and realizing the interests of Sudan and Egypt. He said that they received instructions from the President of the Republic, Omer Al-Bashir, and conveyed to him a message from the President of Egypt concerning the strengthening of relations between the two countries, the continuation of communication, achieving stability in both countries and facing challenges through joint action and activating all frameworks of cooperation and coordination on the bilateral level.
