A force from National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) foiled attempt by four persons using a car to smuggle 245 kilograms of gold with values estimated at more than SDG320b at Al-Gaili area covered with plastic case. Director of Economic Security Department , Gen. Suleiman Mohamed Ahmed said in a press conference held at the Economic Security premises Tuesday in presence of General Director of the National Intelligence and Security Service(NISS), Lt. Gen. Salah Abdalla Gosh, that the attempt was aborted with high professionalism. Gen. Suleiman said security forces would be ready for all smugglers, indicating to importance of cooperation of all individuals of Sudanese people with official authorities to prevent smuggling attempts, saying this operation was intended to harm Sudan and not to benefit from its resources.Brig. Mahjoub Fadl said the seizure was made under directives of Presidency on combating smuggling and counterfeit currencies, saying after available information a network based in Port Sudan city plans to undermine the economy was uncovered and after a close monitoring and pursuance the members of the network were arrested . He said four persons involved in the incident have been apprehended and legal procedures have been taken against them and that investigations would complete by end of this week.
